Local Easter Fun in Thanet!

Well a big hello to everyone! Just wondered how everyone is doing. The sunshine has beaten all the weather forecasts as they had said it would rain and be cloudy all last week. :0)

There was a slight worry for everyone at the Whitehall Project last Wednesday as it had rained a little and was quite grey to start with. Finally the sun came out and it was all steam ahead from the Fegans 160 Family and Resource centre plus all the volunteers and it turned out to be a really great day!

There were free activities, under 7's craft area with the community involvement worker from the Children's Centre's there to offer friendly advice and inform everyone of their services for families with children under 5yrs.

The community Information tent had people from Health Training offering healthy food ideas and free apples, Hyde Housing, Orbit, Thanet District Council and more offering support and advice on housing issues. Options which is a pregnancy crisis support service were there, The community Police from Northwood were offering people with bikes a free protection scheme where they could mark their bikes in case it gets stolen in the future. Youth Matters were giving out their new edition of YM Magazine and some cool balls which went down well with the young people. We were there also with flyer's and parent/child lucky dips, plus stands and info from the Whitehall Project and Fegans 160 Family Resource Centre.

The Engage Youth Bus was also there offering activities for children and young people plus an inflatable football pitch, skate park etc... There were bouncy castles from Affordable Bouncy Castles including a cool miniature golf course. It was all topped off with great music from the bus and the support and hard work of the organisers, not to mention the many of you who turned up with the family and took part.Fab day!

As for the rest of the holidays there have been the Easter blasts for 11-19 year olds around Thanet offering Three days, three locations and loads of cool FREE stuff for young people. Brought to you by ENGAGE.This included Music, D-Jing & MC-ing, inflatable 5-a-side football, volleyball & tug-o-war, ultimate Frisbee, and a mini soccer skillz school, make your own t-shirts/bags, mobile skate park, chill out area and juice bar plus loads of freebies. Also included was a chance to protect your bike from thieves by having the police mark and register it with a special bar coded numbered sticker that could help trace it back to you if found stolen! Thanet Coast Project were offering a 'discover scuba' session where young people could try on the equipment, swim under water and see what they thought of scuba diving. All in all these days are a fab free source of entertainment and activity for our older children. Fab for a free event! :0)

Newington Community Centre held an children's activity afternoon with a family power ball session. There were roughly 30 children who attended with friends and family. They had large chess, volleyball, art, football, large 4-in-a-row and more including the large floor for power balling which was enjoyed by all! Many parents joined in with the children and fun was had by all. Mike and Calvin were there to assist in learning new moves including how to make a relaxing sofa with the balls. There must have been at least 20 large and small power balls rolling around. Great free afternoon!

The Ramsgate Eastcliff Bandstand had two days of fun for families on Easter Sunday/Bank Holiday Monday! Sunday was filled with karaoke singers on the bandstand, stalls, craft activities for children, Easter bonnet competition which showed up some very creative parents/children, Easter Egg hunt which had the children running around and more! Monday offered a treasure hunt with a missing cheetah! , more singers from the area plus the usual stalls and drumming sessions. The fog kept some people at bay on the Monday but those there took part and eventually the sun came out for a couple of hours.
